Suspect Remains At Large After Holding Up Credit Union

A holdup occurred late Thursday morning at the State Employees Credit Union in the 800 block of North Fairview Road in the eastern part of the city and police are asking for the publics help finding the suspect.

Officers responded about 11:30 a.m. to a report of the suspect having entered the SECU location and giving a SECU employee a note demanding money before fleeing, police spokesman Cpl. Ricky Jackson said in a news release.

There were no injuries, Jackson said.

The suspect is described as a Black man roughly 5-feet, 5-inches to 5-feet, 8-inches tall and weighing between 140 to 160 pounds.

The suspect was wearing a blue toboggan, a brown jacket and blue jeans.

The first reports via police radio traffic said that the suspect did not have a weapon and that he left the SECU location heading in an unknown direction.

Subsequent reports said that the suspect was seen walking toward the Roses discount store to the north in a shopping center at the intersection of North Fairview, East Raleigh Boulevard and East Grand Avenue.

Subsequent reports said that officers were going to set up a perimeter at Fairview and East Grand and that the plan was to hold that area as well as the Edgecombe Meadows area.

City Official Receives Prestigious Credential From Professional Association

Assistant City Manager Elton Daniels has received the credentialed manager designation from the International City/County Management Association.

Daniels is now one of more than 1,300 local government management professionals credentialed through the associations Voluntary Credentialing Program.

The designation indicates that a member of the association is qualified by a combination of education and experience, adherence to high standards of integrity and an assessed commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

The International City/County Management Association, which is based in Washington, D.C., develops tools and resources that advance professional local government management to create sustainable communities that improve lives worldwide.

The association has roughly 13,000 members in 27 countries, including educators, students and other local government employees.

Daniels said Wednesday in prepared remarks via a news release that having become an association credentialed manager is a huge honor.

Receiving this designation was a team effort, Daniels said. I am very appreciative of the folks within my circle as well as the communities in which I have served. I consider this accomplishment a team win.

The news release also said Daniels presently is vice president of the N.C. City/County Management Association.
