Reading Police Seek Man In Armed Robbery Of Credit Union
Crime Alert Berks County is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
This was the second bank robbery in Berks County this month. A man robbed the Riverfront Federal Credit Union at 733 Lancaster Ave. in Reading, a little more than a mile away from the Cumru holdup, on Nov. 3, but Kuriger said it’s been a few years since his township has seen a bank robbery, adding that criminals are turning to other means to steal money.
“I think it’s a lot easier for someone to hide behind a computer keyboard or their phone, and the proliferation of fraud that we see,” Kuriger said.
Kuriger added that, with the increased security measures at banks and better-quality surveillance cameras, bank robberies have been trending down, being traded for other types of fraud.
“It keeps them from being personally involved,” Kuriger said, “the types of situations that can present and how unsafe it is for the actor themselves as far as being caught or the ability for evidence to be collected.”
Anyone with information about the credit union robbery is asked to contact the Cumru Township Police Department by calling 610-777-9595.
Anonymous tips can also be shared with Crime Alert Berks County by calling 877-373-9913 or by texting 847411, starting the message with alertberks. Crime Alert is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
