How Do Northwest Federal Credit Union Auto Loans Work

Northwest Federal Credit Union offers loans for new and used cars, lease buyouts, motorcycles, boats and RVs. It also has a variety of ways to refinance an existing car loan, and even refinances its own loans. Thats somewhat unusual among auto lenders, but like other credit unions and banks, Northwest Federal Credit Union rewards buyers of the newest cars who opt for the shortest terms by giving them a shot at the lowest possible rates.

    Term

*Add 2 percentage points to the lowest rate for vehicles with more than 100,000 miles.

The Northwest auto loan rate that you qualify for will depend on a few factors. Your credit and income come into play, of course, just like with any other lender. But as you can see in the chart above, minimum rates start from different levels depending on your loan term length and your vehicles model year. For example, 36-month rates start at 2.14% for 2021 models but start at 4.14% for 2011 models.

Need Some Extra Cash This Month

Consider requesting a payment extension . This allows you to skip a monthly payment and moves out your final payment by one month instead of adding the payment to your final payment. No unpleasant surprises or balloon payments here!

The following products are eligible for payment extensions:

    • Autos, Boats, RVs, Motorcycles, Personal Collateral loans
    • Personal One Time Advances
    • Consumer Business Loans of the same types as above
    • Loans that have been modified
    • All credit card products
    • Northwest Cash & Northwest Cash Plus
    • Collection loan rewrites

How to request a Payment Extension in eBanking:

Please give us a call or send us a secured message in eBanking to request payment extensions for these loans.

  • Log in to your eBanking
  • Choose Services on the left-hand side
  • Select Skip-A-Pay
  • Youll see which of your loans are eligible for a Payment Extension
  • Select the loan youd like to skip
  • Choose which account youd like the fee to come from
  • Once youve completed your request, youll see your next due date
  • Payment Extensions requested through eBanking are instantly applied. Extensions requested at a branch or on the phone can take up to 2 business days to be applied to your account.

Note: If you have Auto Pay, request your Payment Extension 7 days in advance to ensure its applied before your payment is withdrawn.

    Paying Ahead On Your Loan

Online Title Loans Colorado: Credit Union Loan Source Phone Number

There are a few ways to pay ahead on your personal, vehicle, or recreational vehicle loan:

    • Pay your standard payment ahead up to 3 payments
    • Put payments towards the principal balance

Paying ahead with your standard payment might seem like a good idea, but these payments will always pay the interest that is due before paying the principal balance. When you pay ahead your loan, you are moving the due date for the next payment which could affect the interest due on the next payment. If that amount doesnt change, you still accrue interest on the full amount.

You can pay ahead for up to 3 payments. If you try to make a payment after youve already met the 3 payment threshold, youll receive an error message or the transaction may be refused. Your loan due date will only advance by up to 3 payments and your loan will still be accruing interest.

    Paying Down the Principal Balance

We suggest that you pay down the principal balance on your loan instead of making payments ahead. This will reduce the amount of the loan that you owe faster and retain the same payment due dates, which will in turn reduce the amount of interest your loan will be charged.

To make payments applied to the principal balance:

  • Log into online banking on your desktop or in the mobile app
  • Select Transactions and Funds Transfer from the left menu
  • In the From dropdown, choose the account youd like to pay from. If youve connected external accounts, theyll show up here
